Thousands of volunteers will be helping to clean up beaches in six Great Lakes states, including North Beach in Racine.

The event, which will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, is part of the Alliance for the Great Lakes annual September Adopt-a-Beach cleanup  — the single biggest day of action for the lakes.

Cleanup volunteers include individuals, families and schools, as well as community, scouting and religious groups.
