The Racine Police Department confirmed that the body of Ruben Santos was found Friday in a wooded area in the 5100 block of 21st Street. He had been missing since midnight Sunday from the group home where he lived on Byrd Avenue.

While RPD does not suspect any foul play, Santos’ death is under investigation.

A trusted source told Racine County Eye that a group of volunteers were out searching for Santos Friday afternoon when they found him still dressed in the clothes he was last seen wearing; a white t-shirt and pajama pants or sweatpants but no jacket or shoes.

Racine County Medical Examiner Michael Payne told The Journal Times that given the frigid temperatures earlier this week, Santos probably died within a few hours after he left the group home.

Santos was severely brain injured and had been known to hide in bushes from people searching for him in the past. His family has been notified.
