A 13-year-old girl is dead after she drowned in the Root River near Island Park on Friday afternoon. Foul play is not suspected. But the incident is still under investigation, according to a press release by the Racine Police Department. The girl, who was unresponsive, was pulled out of the river near the south baseball diamond. Rescue workers with the Racine Fire Department tried to resuscitate the girl, but their attempts were not successful. The girl had been playing with her nine-year-old cousin near the river. It is unclear whether she jumped in or fell into the river. Completely submerged, the nine-year-old left to find help to find an adult. Racine Police haven’t released the girl’s name. No additional information is being released, the press release reads. However, if anyone has any additional information, they can call the Racine Police Department Investigation Unit at (262) 635-7756. Or to provide information anonymously, please contact Crime Stoppers at (262) 636-9330.
