Rosie’s diner on the city’s south side was destroyed be a fire Monday that is under investigation by the Racine Fire Department.

Crews were called at 4:32 p.m. Monday to the restaurant, 1804 Taylor Avenue, for reports of smoke coming from the building. When firefighters arrived, they saw the smoke that was quickly followed by fire through the roof.

Firefighters battled frigid temperatures and wind chills hovering around -16 to put the fire out. They were particularly concerned about the roof collapsing because of the heavy equipment mounted there.

The building is a total loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured, and the damage was contained to the restaurant.

We will update this story as details become available.
