If the Caledonia village board approves the 2016 proposed budget, residents will see their tax bills increase .33 percent on the village portion of their tax bill.

The proposed mill rate for the village of Caledonia is $6.26 per $1,000 assessed value in 2016, an increase of .20 compared to the mill rate in 2015. This means a property owner whose home is valued at $250,000 would pay $1,565, an increase of $50 if their assessed value remained the same.

The proposal calls for spending $14.6 million, which includes the village general fund, enterprise fund, special revenue fund and capital projects in 2016, a 1.11 percent increase compared to 2015.

The amount property owners will pay collectively, also known as the tax levy, is set at !3.4 million, a 1.56 percent increase.

A public hearing has been set for 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at the Eastside Community Center, 6156 Douglas Ave.,
