Several areas at the Caledonia-Mount Pleasant Memorial Park were damaged after someone spray painted the restrooms and a sign Tuesday and then returned to do more damage on Wednesday.

Jim Svboda, the parks and recreation liaison, found the initial damage Wednesday afternoon and reported it to the Caledonia Police Department. But the vandals came back again Wednesday night.

The words “Plus One” were found spray painted in large letters on the outside walls on the restrooms and a historical marker. There are no security cameras at the park. Vandalism hasn’t been an issue at the park, until now.

The saddest part: Seeing the damage done to a project the community built and donated, Svboda said.

“Those panels are custom with history details,” he said. “Easily (a) couple thousand in damage. It’s all goes back to not enough things in the city to keep kids interested and busy.”
