Racine Starving Artist Fair
August 1 @ 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Sunday, August 1 is the 56th Annual Racine Starving Artist Fair, featuring 110 artist booths. It is being held for the first time at DeKoven Center, 21st (Caron Butler) and Wisconsin from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Fair is organized by the Racine Art Guild to raise funds for its College Art Student Scholarship Program.
It’s all about the art…
The Starving Artist Fair is a high-quality, juried fair. But high quality does not equal high prices. One of the rules of the Starving Artist Fair is that each piece of work sold there must cost under $300.
The fair will feature a broad mix of art media.
Drawing and Painting: 25 artists are participating in covering this broad form of art ranging from acrylic, watercolor, digital, oil, pencil, and resin-enhanced.
Woodworking: 7 wood-based artists share their skills in intarsia, carving, slab, carpentry, and more.
Glass: 5 artists work in blown, fused, stained, and mosaic forms of glass art.
Ceramics: 10 clay/ceramic artists will share their particular specialty of sculptural and dishware art.
Jewelry: 15 artists share their unique take on jewelry making including the use of stone, wire, precious metals, polymer clay, and leather.
Photography, fiber, printmaking, metal, and mixed-media artists are also very well-represented.
The Fair features artists from throughout the region. 25% of the Artists come from Racine County; 11% reside in Kenosha; 57% come from Wisconsin communities outside of Racine and Kenosha, and 7% from Illinois.
