A man has a warrant for his arrest now that police have identified him as a suspect in a car theft after he left his phone at the crime scene.

Stephen L. Hansen, 26, of Milwaukee, traveled to Mount Pleasant on Jan. 29 and stole a 1998 Dodge Caravan worth about $900, according to a criminal complaint. He initially contacted the van’s owner, Love Auto Group, via the website Offer Up, posing as a potential buyer.

He test drove the car, and made an offer to the salesperson. When the salesperson went inside to confer with his employer, Hansen fled in the van.

Hansen is charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and misdemeanor theft.
