Yorkville – Two people were injured after a woman crashed her car into a water tanker truck in a construction zone at 9 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 45 near 52nd Road.

That stretch of road is under heavy road construction. It has barricades and signs indicating that the road is closed. The woman drove her Hyundai Elantra around the road closure and crashed into the tanker truck, which caused severe front-end damage, according to a press release by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

“Thankfully the woman only suffered a broken leg and was transported via rescue to Ascension – All Saints in Racine,” the press release reads. “The male (passenger) was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.”

Deputies issued the woman a citation for failing to obey a sign.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Department wants to remind the public to obey posted signs around construction zones.
