Thanks to anonymous tips called into Crime Stoppers, an accused thief is behind bars.

Brenda McMorris, 52, of Racine, was charged Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court with one count of felony retail theft as a repeater. If convicted, she faces up to 3-1/2 years and/or fines up to $10,000.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called at 5:34 p.m. May 22 to Pearl Vision, 2721 S. Green Bay Road, for a report of retail theft. Store employees said a woman – later identified as McMorris – left the store with four pairs of eyeglass frames valued at over $800.

After surveillance photos of McMorris were posted and shared across social media, Racine police received two credible tips through Crime Stoppers that McMorris was the woman in the photos.

The defendant has a history of retail theft and drug convictions dating back to 1982. McMorris was assigned a $3,000 cash bond at her initial appearance Thursday and remains in the Racine County Jail. She will next be in court June 17 for her preliminary hearing.
