A big, white sedan affixed with dozens of logos from local businesses and sporting a V8 under the hood smashed and got mashed Sunday afternoon in order to raise thousands of dollars for a local animal rescue and shelter.

Demo for the Dogs was a fundraiser for H.O.P.E. Safehouse led by Ralph Malicki, owner of Malicki’s Piggly Wiggly on Washington Avenue. Malicki asked local businesses – Racine County Eye included – to pay $100 for their logo to be featured on his demolition car.

Well over a dozen companies pitched in to help, and dozens of individuals pledged money for each hit Malicki took during his heat of the derby.

He didn’t make it into the finals, but Malicki took 49 hits. He said the final fundraising total has yet to be determined, but he thinks the total amount going to HOPE is around $3,000.
