The start of a new school year is an exciting time for students, but for those who might not have the supplies they need to succeed, there can also be some anxiety as the first day of school approaches.

To help students in Mount Pleasant’s Lakeside neighborhood start school with the right stuff, officers and community volunteers will host a school supply giveaway starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Mount Pleasant COP House.

COP Officers James Kelley and Matt Prochaska want to have the right stuff for 100 students, so donations of the following items are needed:

  • Back packs
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Colored Pencils
  • Blue and black pens
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Folders
  • 3-ring binders
  • Pencil cases
  • Markers
  • Dry erase markers
  • Pink erasers
  • Loose leaf paper
  • Rulers
  • Index cards
  • Glue
  • Kleenex

Donations should be dropped off at the Mount Pleasant COP House, 2237 Mead Street, or Village Hall, 8811 Campus Drive. Call the COP House at (262) 664-7946.

In addition to our education features, we’ll be kicking off a series of stories highlighting how parents, students, and educators are adapting to the impact of COVID-19 on education.
