While we all love to live, work and play in Racine County, sometimes we do have to venture out and about. This weekend, though, you’ll need an alternate route if you were planning to drive anywhere that involves I-94 at the Zoo interchange in Milwaukee County.

The expressway in both directions will be shut down for the weekend beginning at 11 p.m. Friday and re-opening at 5:30 a.m. Monday. The closure is part of the planned $1.7 billion reconstruction of the interchange, considered to be the busiest in Wisconsin.

Alternate routes could include taking I-94 from Racine into downtown Milwaukee to I-794 west. Then, take I-43 south to I-894, heading west on I-894 and then south again on I-43. Drivers will have to exit at Moorland Road and go north to pick up the expressway west again, according to a story at jsonline.com.

Love what we do?

In addition to our education features, we’ll be kicking off a series of stories highlighting how parents, students, and educators are adapting to the impact of COVID-19 on education.
