RACINE – Early this morning at 1:21 a.m., Racine Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 1000 block of Birch Street. Fire crews arrived to find the back exterior of a single-family home engulfed in flames. The home was unoccupied.

Engines 1 and 2 blasted the blaze, gaining control over it in just 10 minutes. The crews from Truck 1, Med 1 and Engine 6 were able to search the home for any victims but found none.

Other units responded to the call as well, including Quint 4, Battalion 1, Car 2, and Utility 2. A total of 23 firefighters were on-scene, working swiftly to control the situation. The Racine Police Department also responded and were assisting with traffic control.

The cause of this fire is currently under investigation. No injuries to civilians or RFD personnel were reported.

The Racine Fire Department would like to remind the public of the importance of securing unoccupied buildings and periodically checking on them.
