An elderly couple were hit by a car and killed early Saturday evening after they attended church services in Caledonia.

CPD Lt. Gary Larsen confirmed that Oscar and Loretta Lang, both 83, died of their injuries after being struck by an SUV at 5:50 p.m. Saturday near St. Louis Catholic Church, 13207 County Road G, in Caledonia.

“The couple were attempting to cross Highway G to get to their vehicle when they were struck,” Larsen said in a written release.

Two nurses who were also attending mass attempted life-saving measures on the Langs while rescue was on the way, and Father Mark Danczyk did administer last rites, a story in The Journal Times reads.

The driver of the SUV is a woman who also had her two children in the car with her. They were not injured.

That length of roadway is dark with few streetlights, Larsen added, but any determinations about the cause of the accident would be premature.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident. Police continue to investigate with the assistance of Wisconsin State Patrol and the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

We will update this story when we get more details.
