The Koss Family Foundation is inviting the entire Racine-area community to dinner at Texas Roadhouse to help local families dealing with the financial hardships cancer can cause.
From 4 to 10 p.m. on Aug. 23, Texas Roadhouse, 6228 Durand Avenue, will donate 10 percent of each check to the Koss Family Foundation.
“Join us for dinner and help support families with a cancer diagnosis at the same time. Bring in or show the flyer on a smartphone and 10% of the check will go to the foundation, all while someone else does the cooking and the dishes!” the event post on Facebook reads.
Steve and Becky Koss were inspired to start the Koss Family Foundation after Steve was diagnosed in January 2015 with stage IV pancreatic cancer, and 900 generous family members, friends and strangers last summer donated to help them with the mundane expenses of every day.
“It was absolutely amazing to see all these people come out for us,” Becky said of the benefit last summer. “The Koss Family Foundation will provide non-medical support like mortgage or rent, utilities, groceries, gas, things like that.”
Steve’s health is stable and he is in the middle of three chemotherapy-free months because recent tests showed that his tumors are not growing. Specifically, his pancreatic tumor is less active, and his lungs and liver are tumor-free.
The Koss family – Steve, Becky, and their son, Tyler – are celebrating by going camping, spending time on Lake Michigan in the red, sparkly boat Becky jokingly calls “the mistress,” and sorting through applications from families who need their help.
