A fire inside the cabin of a Ford Mustang parked inside Racine Auto Specialists caused $40,000 worth of damage. No one was injured.

Racine firefighters were called at 2:39 p.m. Sunday to Racine Auto Specialists, 2320 Douglas Avenue, after the owner was notified by his alarm company that the business’ fire alarm was going off.

When crews arrived, they found thick, black smoke that made it difficult to find the source of the fire. Once firefighters understood the fire to be in the cabin of a Ford Mustang, they extinguished the flames quickly.

The fire caused $20,000 damage to the building and another $20,000 to the car and other items inside the building.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire though it is understood it originated in the car. There were no injuries.
