Great Lakes awarded four students, currently in apprenticeship programs at Gateway Technical College, $1,500 Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation Tools of the Trade scholarships. The scholarships are given to help students cover expenses like tuition and tools. With the assistance of the scholarships 94% of the recipients complete, or at least continue, their training.

The four apprentice students at Gateway are part of a larger pool of recipients statewide.  200 scholarships, totaling $300,000, will be awarded throughout the Wisconsin Technical College System.

Richard D. George, President and Chief Executive Officer of Great Lakes stated, “Our scholarships help technical college students overcome financial barriers and complete highly skilled training programs so they can advance to in-
demand careers.”

All 200 scholarships have been awarded to apprentices at Wisconsin Technical College System colleges. Since the program began in 2013, 17 Gateway apprentices have received scholarships.

The Gateway scholarship recipients include:

  •  Heather Faltinson, Lake Geneva, Computer Numerical Control Machinist
  • Angel Garcia, Racine, Electrical
  •  Thomas Karczewski, Trevor, Electrical
  •  Kyle Sondergaard, Milwaukee, Electrical
