Get ready for fun, new additions to Open House Racine County (OHRC), coming Saturday, May 5. Presented by Real Racine, the county’s destination marketing organization, OHRC is a free exploration of nearly 60 interesting places.

Among the new sites for 2018 are the Modine-Benstead Observatory in rural Yorkville, the historic DeKoven Center overlooking Lake Michigan, Gateway Technical College’s SC Johnson iMET Center and Putzmeister America, a manufacturer of huge truck-mounted concrete pumps in Sturtevant.

Other additions this year include The Covenant at Murray Mansion, an 1870s Italianate-style home that is now a special event space; the Racine County Courthouse, where visitors can tour a fourth floor ceremonial courtroom and see beautiful views from the tenth floor; and Sturtevant Rails, a railroad heritage museum housed in a former Milwaukee Road caboose.

Visitors to OHRC will also have access to popular sites from last year’s event, including the world-renowned Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Wingspread home in Wind Point, the SC Johnson Administration Building and Research Tower in Racine, the Chocolate Experience Museum in downtown Burlington and Oak Clearing Farm (featured on the cable TV show “American Pickers”) near Union Grove.
