Vista Jackson‘s smile was so memorable that her nickname at Horlick High School was “chops,” but that smile is a memory now for her friends and family after she died of a gunshot wound Sept. 10.

Now, those friends have started a fundraising effort to help the family pay for her funeral expenses. Tracy Holeton and Katie Hall, who are friends of the family, have started a gofundme.com account to help the family raise money to pay for her funeral costs.

“She was 14, no one thought she would die this young,” Holeton said. “But she was always smiling, always happy.”

Vista’s boyfriend, Keller McQuay, is accused of shooting her at his residence with a sawed off shotgun, according to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

Friends have also started a photo tribute page for Vista on Facebook. Vista’s funeral is set for 10 a.m. for the viewing and 11 a.m. for the service on Monday at Draeger-Langendorf, 4600 County Line Rd.
