Area motorists who are scheduling their car’s oil change can help children in crisis at the same time.

Racine Automotive Group is teaming up with Faith, Hope and Love to help provide comfort to children who are taken away from their families, rescued from human trafficking and visiting incarcerated parents. Instead of calling Racine Automotive directly to book their next oil change, car owners can instead purchase an oil change from FHL for $20. When they do, Racine Automotive will donate $10 back to FHL.

“If we sell 500 oil changes, that means $5,000 to support children in crisis in Racine County,” Faith, Hope and Love Director Heather Lojeski posted on Facebook.

Faith, Hope and Love Duffels for Kids supplies county law enforcement agencies with duffel bags filled with comforting items like a stuffed animal, books, socks, and a flashlight for kids who are being separated from their families or are being displaced for other reasons. Since 2013, Lojeski has supplied over 500 bags to police and the sheriff’s department.

For trafficking victims the contents of the bags are a little different and are called New Beginnings bags. A fleece blanket, Pillow Pets (doubles as the stuffed animal and the pillow), t-shirts, sweatpants, sports bras, deodorant, and snacks. The contents of the bag are meant to cover the 48 hours between rescue and the transition into more long-term care solutions.

Oil changes can be purchased by mailing payments and requests (must be postmarked by November 5th) to 740 College Ave., Racine, WI 53403. Checks should be made payable to Faith Hope & Love with a note indicating whose name should be written on the certificate.

Lojeski said oil changes can also be purchased at the FHL’s Autumn Silhouettes event Nov. 6 at the Racine Marriott.
