As a Caledonia family mourns the loss of two people, a third member — a six-year-old girl — has been released from the hospital following a two-car crash that happened Friday in Caledonia.
Kevin Dalley, his nine-year-old daughter Emily Dalley, and her six-year-old sister were traveling eastbound in a sedan when Kevin turned left into a subdivision. Levi Ruohonen, 25, of Caledonia, crashed the pick-up truck he was driving into the car, according to a press release by the Caledonia Police Department.
Emily and Kevin died as a result of the injuries they sustained from the crash. But the six-year-old girl came home Sunday from the hospital.
The family is requesting privacy at this time.
“We wish to express our gratitude to the individuals that stopped to help at the scene of the accident, the first responders from Caledonia and surrounding areas, and the doctors and nurses at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. We recognize that this tragedy touches the lives of more than just our family. We are grateful for all of the love and support we have received in these trying times.
Ruohonen, who is in custody at the Racine County Jail, was arrested for two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and causing injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. This was his second drunk driving arrest. However, speed may also have been a factor in the crash.
An initial hearing is expected to be scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday. A spokesperson for the family told Racine County Eye that they didn’t believe that any members of the family would be attending the hearing.
