It’s a great weekend ahead for a music reunion, a touch of color, a nighttime celebration and great local food. Real Racine has you covered!
Music, family and more. The Family Reunion Music Festival marks its tenth anniversary on Saturday. A musical picnic and fundraiser for the Racine Literacy Council, the festival runs from 2 to 10 p.m. at the Johnson Park Pavilion, 6200 Northwestern Ave. Described as a celebration of “life, togetherness and a mutual love for creative expression,” Family Reunion’s nearly continuous entertainment includes spoken word poetry as well as jazz, Irish folk, Americana, hip-hop, alternative rock and more. Admission is $10 or $8 with two non-perishable food item donations for the Racine County Food Bank. Children ages 6 and younger get in free. Attendees receive four food tickets and a drink ticket.
Getting colorful. Start your weekend early with the Color Splash Art Party Pop-up from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at RAM’s Wustum Museum campus, 2519 Northwestern Ave. This evening includes games, drinks, music and a glow-in-the-dark dance party. There will also be make-it-and-take-it art stations, collaborative paint by number and after-dark Raku pottery firing demonstrations. Admission is $15 ($10 for Racine Art Museum (RAM) members). Light up the night. Saturday evening brings the annual Venetian Night celebration on Browns Lake. It starts with the Aquaducks water-ski show – junior show at 4:30 p.m. and main show at 6 p.m. from Fischer Park, 30400 Durand Ave., east of Burlington. Then, at dusk, you’ll see the fireworks show followed by the ring of fire along the shoreline. Free admission.
Enjoy a taste. What’s described as “a taste of Wisconsin for adults” is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Racine Zoo, 2131 N. Main St. Wine, Stein and Dine features unlimited wine and beer sampling from featured Wisconsin vineyards and breweries and delicious bites of local cuisine. You must be 21 or older. Tickets (advance sales only) are $50 ($40 for Zoo members). Visit www.racinezoo.org
Time to climb. You’ll have two opportunities this weekend to tour the 108-foot-tall Wind Point Lighthouse, 4725 Lighthouse Drive, Wind Point. The tour takes you up the 144 steps for spectacular views from the catwalk. Saturday’s tour hours are 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday tours are from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 through 11. Because of safety considerations, children age 5 and younger may not make the climb. Reservations are encouraged. Visit www.windpointlighthouse.org
Enjoy the band. The Racine Concert Band kicks off its 96th season at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Racine Zoo amphitheatre, 2131 N. Main St. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy this free presentation of a variety of music, including traditional marches, theater, opera and classical. Please use the Zoo’s Augusta Street or Walton Street gates starting the 7 p.m. The Racine Concert Band will perform Sunday evenings through August 12.
