The southbound lanes of I-94 were closed for a couple of hours early Tuesday evening for what was an attempt to locate a stolen vehicle, according to officials with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
Several witnesses told Racine County Eye that police from Kenosha County Sheriff, Racine County Sheriff, Wisconsin State Patrol and Mount Pleasant had their guns drawn.
Scanner chatter reported around 6:20 p.m. by Racine County Scanner reports that police were searching for at least two suspects who were involved in an armed robbery involving two vehicles.
Sgt. Aaron Schmidt, of the Racine County Sheriff’s Department, said the matter is an ongoing investigation.
“We assisted in taking into custody a driver of a stolen vehicle from Milwaukee,” Schmidt said in a voicemail.
The two cars that were pulled over — a Mercedes Benz and a Nissan — were being driven by fans of a rap group called Stick Unkrane. The group was traveling together to see a show in Kenosha at Tarbender’s.
Racine County Eye spoke to Dion Smart, the driver’s of the Mercedes Benz that was stopped Tuesday night. He said the car was not stolen, it was “not a normal pull over” and he wasn’t arrested.
