The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to replace the bridge over the Root River at Highway 38.

Construction is expected to happen in the fall of 2021 or 2022. In the meantime, a public meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at Gilmore Middle School, 2330 Northwestern Ave., in the cafeteria.

Residents can attend the project open house to review the proposed project and offer comments to the DOT staff.

The project is being proposed because the current structure is “reaching the end of its useful service life and is
unable to provide the capacity needed for acceptable operations for the intersections of WIS 38 and
County MM and WIS 38 and Rapids Drive,” according to the DOT.

The Highway 38 project proposal includes:

• Replacing existing structure over Root River with new, wider structure that accommodates additional
capacity at WIS 38 and County MM intersection.
• Upgrading signals at WIS 38 and Rapids Drive with a signal head over each lane.
• Providing pedestrian accommodations at WIS 38 and Rapids Drive.
