Hitters Baseball Academy will call Raymond home starting in August after the completion of its new facility at 2915 West 6 1/2 Mile Road.

Owner RJ Fergus said he currently trains about 350 students at the baseball academy, which is at capacity.

The current facility is located at 4726 6 Mile Road. But the new 33,000 square-foot building will allow him to serve up to 600 students. The facility also features a second level. In total, the building will have 41,000 square-feet of teaching, weight training and playing area.

“This really means a lot to the region because it means more to the local baseball community,” Fergus said. “But this also means training can be year round and everything can be done indoors.”

Fergus started the business six years ago, but really never intended it to become a business. He started teaching six years ago in Racine, but then had a waiting list of students that wanted to sign on and he came to Caledonia to formally start the business. The organization has 43 students that currently play in the National Athletic Association.
