A 34-year-old woman was hospitalized and is in stable condition following a one-car crash that happened at 10:56 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of Oakes Road.

Mary Pagano, of Mount Pleasant, was a passenger in the car that crashed into a tree, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Nicholas Putz, 35 of Elm Grove, was driving the car involved in the crash. When Mount Pleasant Police interviewed Putz, they noted that he smelled of alcohol. He suffered minor injuries. Officers determined that alcohol and speed were a factor in causing this crash, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Wrapped around a tree, the car was heavily damaged. Her breathing was shallow and she didn’t respond to questions.  Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department cut her seatbelt. They then assisted her until paramedics from the South Shore Fire Department arrived on scene and could provide more advanced care. Still trapped, firefighters had to cut apart the car so that they could remove her.

She was transported to Ascension-All Saints emergency room for treatment where she is now in stable condition.

The crash is still under investigation. No arrests or charges have been filed with the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

We’ll update the story when more information is made available.
