More than 100 children strapped on their running gear and took a quick dip in Lake Michigan Saturday to get a taste of what it feels like to participate in the 70.3 IronMan competition.

The kids, ages 3 to 15, ran one mile around North Beach and dashed into the big lake as a way for the organization and event sponsor UnitedHealthcare to promote health and fitness as a lifestyle that begins in childhood.

UnitedHealtcare’s Dr. Health E. Hound was part of the festivities; he and Ginger Dzick, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Wisconsin vice president, kicked-off the fun run.

Adult IronMan participants get started early Sunday morning and are expected to finish by early afternoon.
