Name three long-term goals you have for the County and why you chose them.
Financial stability and sustainability – I chose this goal because fiscal responsibility has always been one of my key interests. The County is a good steward of taxpayer dollars and with the new growth coming with Foxconn, this is even more important.
Quality of life – This is an area we are addressing – the Pritchard Park changes; water park and ball fields and the donation to Burlington for a pool. These are things, along with jobs, that attract families to Racine County.
Workforce issues – While work has begun on preparing people for the jobs at Foxconn, we must not forget our legacy companies who have been the backbone of this community. We must immediately work with those companies to ensure they stay healthy and viable.
What are the three biggest challenges the County faces and how would address them?
The tremendous growth that will happen in this part of SE Wisconsin. We need to make smart, long-term decisions for our County. That means having knowledgeable, dedicated people at the table making those decisions. My district which encompasses Sturtevant will see a lot of Foxconn growth. I will work to keep my constituents apprised of changes that could affect us. This will be a full-time job. Balancing the needs of the whole County with the immediacy of the growth east of the I. I will work closely with the executive arm of County government and County staff to gain and keep a clear, updated understanding of the issues affecting the whole County so I can make informed decisions.
The County is poised for growth, but many County residents struggle with employment. How should it adapt to that growth?
Smartly, use the best resources whether in people or programs to plan for the future. I believe in total transparency and letting people know what we are doing and why and how it will affect them.
How would you describe your leadership style?
I am a good listener who absorbs information from many sources to make informed, logical and cost-efficient decisions.
Why should people elect you?
Because I have a proven record of accomplishment with 12 years on the County Board in leadership roles. I am retired and have the time to devote to this job, and in the coming years, it will take a lot of time and effort. Lastly, my heart is in this community. I wish to see it grow and prosper like no other time in the history and would like the opportunity to help that happen.
