A proposed new Kwik Trip gas station and car wash was approved for Mount Pleasant by the village plan commission Wednesday, and is bringing with it an extension of Sunnyslope Drive. The 10,000 square-foot convenience store and car wash with a canopied filling station will be constructed on the vacant Toyota dealership at 6801 Washington Ave. The development will comprise the northern portion of the lot where the dealership building is now, leaving the southern portion undeveloped, said Leah Berlin, a landscape architect with Kwik Trip. “The long awaited redevelopment of this is here,” said Dave Driver, chairman of the commission. As part of the development, Kwik Trip is paying to have Sunnyslope Drive realigned at the intersection with Washington Avenue creating a four-way intersection. However, despite being very close already, the project will not reconnect the street to the dead end of Sunnyslope to the south, unless there is future development of the southern parcel, Rocky Rococo Pizza & Pasta‘s or other residential properties to the east. “This would likely trigger us requiring that connection,” Schultz said.
