In a low-speed chase, a Racine man is charged with attempting to elude police. But he never exceeded 35 mph in his escape.

Jeffrey L. Burnette refused to stop in an attempt to make a call before being arrested on Monday by the Racine police. He knew he had a warrant for failing to pay child support.

The police officer attempted to pull over Burnette, 27, at the intersection of Ohio Street and Byrd Avenue. He recognized Burnette through his windshield as he passed the vehicle, according to a criminal complaint. He also noted that Burnette’s windows were illegally tinted.

The chase went on for two minutes. Burnette swerved around another car and even into oncoming traffic, through the criminal complaint states he maintained 35 mph.

Burnette is charged with attempting to elude a traffic officer and bail jumping.
