When deputies tried to stop a vehicle going 68 mph in a 55 mph zone heading east on Highway K on Jan. 7, it led to a high-speed chase.

Dennis D. Buie Jr., 33, has been charged with fleeing from police the afternoon of January 7. He is also charged with driving while revoked.

According to the criminal complaint, Racine County sheriff’s deputies saw a vehicle speeding, and turned around to stop it. The vehicle sped up, hitting 90 mph as it approached Flancher Road. The vehicle passed several vehicles in the gravel shoulder.

A Caledonia police officer joined the chase.

Law enforcement terminated the pursuit near Airline Road, “due to the extreme recklessness of the driver and the danger to the public,” the complaint states.

Police could not find the vehicle after the chase, but Department of Transportation records showed the vehicle owner. She confirmed Buie had been driving the vehicle, and said he is in the Racine County Jail but has release privileges.

A week later, Buie admitted to deputies that he had been driving and fled, saying he thought he would lose his release privileges if he was pulled over. His release stated he was only allowed to drive between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays; this incident happened at 3:54 p.m.
