A man has been arrested after beating a woman to the point that she jumped from a moving car to avoid being further beaten.

Vincent Tyrone Cannon, 54, and the woman were hanging out and driving around after midnight April 24. They pulled into a church parking lot near Blake Avenue and Albert Street and started drinking, according to a criminal complaint by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

The woman said Cannon was being “touchy feely.” She asked him to drive her home and told him they could have sex if he drove her home. On the way there, she told Cannon she wasn’t going to have sex with him. That’s when the assault began.

He kept driving while he beat her. Then he stopped, grabbed her by the hair and punched her with his other hand about 20 times. She said she thought Cannon eventually stopped hitting because “he heard her face break,” she told police.

According to a criminal complaint, her orbital bone, which lines the eye socket, was broken and required surgery. She told police she was able to escape and stop the assault by jumping out of the car while it was still in motion.

Cannon is charged with substantial battery intending bodily harm, false imprisonment and misdemeanor bail jumping.
