A 45-year-old Racine man is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after police say he ate at Denny’s and left without paying as well as stealing a bottle of liquor from Piggly Wiggly.
According the criminal complaints against him, Struebing on March 21 ate at Denny’s and ran out on the $20.78 bill. Restaurant employees told police he left a receipt and a card belonging to a dead woman on the table before running from the building. They said Struebing looked familiar because workers thought he’d done the same thing a few weeks before.
Police say a couple of weeks later, Struebing returned to Denny’s, but this time he was detained by restaurant security and subsequently arrested. Court records do not list any charges filed at the time of his arrest.
Struebing was arrested again Thursday after attempting to steal a bottle of liquor from Piggly Wiggly, 3900 Erie Street, the complaint reads. When store security confronted him, Struebing followed them back inside the store but then became combative. Several employees held Struebing until officers arrived.
He remains in the Racine County Jail on both a $500 cash bond plus a $2,500 signature bond for the liquor theft and a $500 signature bond for his dine-and-dash case. Struebing will next be in court July 28 for his pre-trial conferences in both cases.
