A man has been charged with felonies in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault of a 69-year-old woman that happened in December, according to a press release by the Racine Police Department.

Dexter Swanagan, 49, of Racine, was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office on Monday with two counts of second-degree sexual assault (use of force), aggravated battery of an elderly person, burglary, and intimidating a victim/threatening with force.

Swanagan forcibly entered the woman’s residence in the 1200 block of Martin Luther King drive and sexually assaulted her at 4:52 a.m. Dec. 17, according to a press release by the Racine Police Department.

During the investigation, police recovered DNA and other evidence, which allowed them to track down leads that identified Swanagan as the offender. Swanagan has been in police custody since Dec. 17 on pending cocaine charges from an unrelated case.

Swanagan was expected to have an initial appearance on Monday in front of Racine County Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch.
