Mount Pleasant police say a man stole liquor on at two different dates from Pick ‘n Save using a second person each time to act as his look-out.
Sergio Belfousa, of Berwyn, IL, was charged Friday in Racine County Circuit Court with three misdemeanor charges of retail theft. If convicted, he faces up to 2-1/3 years in prison and/or up to $30,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, Pick ‘n Save store security told officers that a man – later identified as Belfousa – was seen on surveillance video on two days – twice in the same day – coming into the store and stealing bottles of liquor that totaled $862.72. On each occasion, police say Belfousa was accompanied by a second person who acted as the look-out.
Officers say they conducted a traffic stop Friday on a vehicle in which Belfousa was the driver, and they took him into custody.
Online jail records indicate Belfousa remains in the Racine County Jail on a $250 cash bond. He will next be in court Nov. 10 for a pre-trial conference.
