Racine police say a 46-year-old man is facing up to 60 years in prison after he touched a young girl inappropriately while her mother was at work.

The Racine man was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single felony charge of first degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. If convicted, he faces up to 60 years in prison.

We are not naming the man to protect the identity of the child.

According to the criminal complaint, a 10-year-old girl told police that she was sleeping on the couch July 2 while her mother was at work when the man asked if he could lie down behind her. The girl told him no, but he did anyway and began touching her over her clothing.

Police say the girl told them the man also masturbated while touching the girl. At some point, he got up, and the girl notified her mother via cell phone about the assault.

The man remains in the Racine County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond. He will next be in court July 21 for his preliminary hearing.
