A 62-year-old man died after he fell overboard while on his sail boat at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14 on Lake Michigan not far from the Racine Harbor, according to a press release by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

Greg Jackson, of Middleton, WI, was out on his sail boat, a 44.5 foot Catalina, when it had some type of issue with the sail on the side of the boat. While trying to fix the problem, Jackson fell off the boat. A friend of Jackson’s was on the boat at the time. He was able to get Jackson back on the boat and he called for help, but wasn’t able to sail the boat back to the harbor.

When the call came in, Jackson was unresponsive.

The U.S. Coast Guard helped the Racine Fire Department bring the boat to shore. But when Jackson was taken to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital – All Saints, he was pronounced dead.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Department is calling the incident “a tragic accident.”
