One person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash between a semi-tractor trailer and a Ford Escape on Highway 38 and Nicholson Road Monday.

Highway 38 was closed from Nicholson Rd to West River Road for about five hours as crews clean a diesel spill from the crash, according to a press release by the Caledonia Police Department.

Dean Roman, 60, of Racine, was driving a Ford Escape westbound on Highway 38. Ramon Sanchez-Hernandez, 51, of Milwaukee was driving a semi eastbound on Highway 38 when Roman crossed the center line and crashed into the semi.

Roman was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. Sanchez-Hernandez suffered minor injures and was taken to Ascension Hospital – All Saints in Racine.

Because of the amount of fuel that spilled, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources helped to clean-up the fuel.

The Wisconsin Highway Patrol assisted the Caledonia Police Department. The crash is still under investigation.
