A 62-year-old man shot himself at 7:46 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot at South Hills Country Club, 3047 E. Frontage Rd., according a press release by the Caledonia Police Department.

The man has been identified as Branko Sarenac, of Racine.

An employee of South Hills Country Club told police he saw Sarenac drive his car into the parking lot, exit and shoot himself with a handgun. Rescue personnel from the Caledonia and South Shore fire departments attempted to save the man, but they were unable to and Sarenac was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, Racine County Sheriff’s Office and Mount Pleasant Police Department assisted the Caledonia Police Department.
