Mount Pleasant police say a 27-year-old man is behind bars after assaulting his elderly mother and barricading himself in her home.
Officers were called at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the 1800 block of S. Green Bay Road because a woman reported her son hit her in the head, slammed her to the ground and poured milk on her. She said she was injured but not seriously enough to require medical attention.
When Mount Pleasant police arrived, the man was armed with a knife and ordered officers off the property. A short standoff followed, but police finally convinced the man to surrender.
Racine County Scanner reported during the incident that the man may have been violating a restraining order and that he broke a window.
Still, the man did not go quietly. Police say he remained combative and attempted escape up until he was booked into the Racine County Jail on a felony charge each of battery to a person over 62 years old and attempted escape and misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct-domestic abuse and resisting arrest.
