No one was injured in a one-car crash involving a man who told witnesses that he was trying to commit suicide in front of his girlfriend by crashing his car into a tree on Five Mile Road just east of Highway 31.

The man was arguing with his girlfriend at 5:42 p.m. Saturday  when he dropped her off on Highway 31 and Five Mile Road. Driving east on Five Mile Road, the man turned around the car and went into a driveway at a high rate of speed crashing into a light pole, said an officer with the Caledonia Police Department said.

“We did a field sobriety test and believe he might be on something — maybe a psychotrophic or something, it’s still under investigation,” said the officer.

A wire came down over the car, but it wasn’t a power wire, the officer said. We Energies was on scene to disconnect the neutral wire.

While the man was arrested and taken into custody, official charges have not been issued. We’ll update the story when we receive more information.
