Burlington Democrat and Horlick High School teacher Andy Mitchell is going to give a run for political office another go this fall when he challenges Robin Vos in the 63rd Assembly District.

Mitchell first tried in 2014 to unseat Vos, R-Rochester, who is Assembly Speaker and has been in office since 2004. Vos came out ahead in that contest, but Mitchell is hoping for a different outcome this year.

He posted an invitation to his official announcement party Thursday on his campaig Facebook page.

“We are announcing Andy’s candidacy on Feb. 2nd and we would like for YOU to be there. We want to fill the room to show the good people of the 63rd district and the state that there is an alternative to Robin Vos. Please rsvp here or on the event page. The details: When, Feb 2nd at 7:00. Where, Burlington Charcoal Grill in the back room. Snacks will be served,” the post reads.

If more than one challenger files nomination papers, the primary election will be Aug. 9. The general election is Nov. 8.
