Racine residents will soon have another grocery store and butcher shop called MKE Fresh Meat Market available to them.

Owned by Jaspreet Gill, the store will be located at the old Value Village, 2917 Durand Avenue, site. Gill received a preliminary recommendation from the Public Safety and Licensing Committee on Tuesday for a retail fermented malt beverage license.

The final approval will still need to come from the Common Council on Tuesday.

Gill did not have a firm opening date for the store.

The store opening is in addition to the Save-A-Lot grocery store, which is moving into the old Racine Produce, 3701 Durand Ave. That store is scheduled to open Feb. 23. The opening was delayed because Supervalue, which owned Save-A-Lot, sold the chain to Onex.

Once these stores open, there will be three grocery stores within a mile of each other along Durand Avenue. Piggly Wiggly is located at 4011 Durand Avenue.
