A new triathlon event is headed to Racine, and it will offer opportunities for athletes at three different levels.
Real Racine Events Director Cari Greving told the newspaper this new event is not meant to replace the Ironman since distances for that race are much further but instead is an attempt to keep triathletes in the area.
“It’s something new, fresh,” she is quoted as saying.
The new triathlon will feature three different distances:
- Super Sprint: .23-mile swim; 6.2-mile bike ride; 1.5-mile run
- Sprint: 1/2-mile swim; 12-mile bike ride; 3.1-mile run
- Olympic: 1-mile swim; 25-mile bike ride; 6.2-mile run
Racers will begin and end at North Beach; first swimming in Lake Michigan before hitting the streets for the bicycle portion and finishing with a foot race.
“An international field of over 30 professional triathletes and 1500 age group triathletes from 30+ states will be highlighting the inaugural event,” the race website reads above a 3D map of all levels of the race.
Registration is open and includes a t-shirt, running cap, poster, swim cap and a medal along with a post-race party. Athletes over the age of 21 will also get a beer.
