Racine bar owner Doug Nicholson purchasedt the Hansen building at 311 Main St., which he plans to renovate.

He doesn’t have a future use in mind for the building. But he bought the building from Xavier LLC, a company owned by George Zaleski, two weeks ago.

“The building is called the Hansen building and the building next door at 309 Main must have been built by them as well because it’s got a lot of the same elements to it. But it was built in 1913 and was used as a saloon and hall.”

He expects the renovation to take about two years to complete.

Nicholson also owns the Carriage House Liquor Company, Envi, and The Ivanhoe Pub & Eatery, which are located on or near Main Street. But he doesn’t own the building that Ivanhoe occupies. He bought Kenny’s on Main, 1300 N. Main St.., in April from Gilbert Paar.

Nichoson just filed a request for a liquor license from the city for the new bar. He is expected to be in front of the Public Safety and Licensing Committee Monday night. Once he receives approval for the liquor license, he plans to submit his building plans to start reconstructing the space. A kitchen and outdoor patio are planned.

He plans to name it the Main Hub.

“We’re still planning on making this a corner bar, but we’ll be serving different types of corn dogs,” he said. “We’ll put in little grill… it’ll be nice.”
