With his family by his side, Alphonse J. “Al” Cunningham, age 89, passed away peacefully, Wednesday at his residence.  Al was born in Racine, February 8, 1928, son of the late Alphonse J. and Catherine (Nee:  Murphy) Cunningham.

He was a proud graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1946”. On September 27, 1952, Al married the love of his life, Janet M. Vash at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  She preceded him in death, August 26, 2016.  He was employed with S.C. Johnson for over thirty years.  Al was a longtime and dedicated member of St. Richard Catholic Church, and the Catholic Men’s Association.  Above all, Al will be best remembered for his great love and devotion to his family.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Dr. James (Debbie) Cunningham of Brookfield, Joan (John) Perugini of Racine, Joseph (Janet) Cunningham of Racine, Daniel (Kristin) Cunningham of Prairie du Sac; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Schreiber, Christopher Cunningham, Stephen (Meghan) Cunningham, Jessica (Kevin) Maes, John (Allison) Perugini, Diane (Kurt) Rasmussen, Michael Cunningham, Evelyn Cunningham, Evan Cunningham;  great-grandchildren, Luke, Grace, George, Walter and Liam, Henry, John, William and Frank; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard (Elizabeth) Vash, Joseph (the late Phyllis) Vash, Marilyn (Lawrence) Lehner, Kathleen (Richard) Keller; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Ave, on Thursday 11 a.m., with Rev. Allen J. Bratkowski officiating.  Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m.    Memorials to St. Richard’s Catholic Church have been suggested.
