Dorothy MertinsDorothy Mertins, 94, passed away on Friday afternoon at Franciscan Villa. Dorothy was born in Ives Grove, WI on Feb. 17, 1922, daughter of the late Alfred and Olive (nee: Wrixton) Langdon.

Dorothy was married to the love of her life, Marshall M. Mertins on August 10, 1961 and shared 43 beautiful years with him until his passing on Apr. 26, 2005. She was employed for over 27 years with Racine Iron and Wire Works until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Racine. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed crocheting afghans, word search puzzles and her winters in Florida spent with Marshall.

She will be missed by her step-children, Michael (Carol) Mertin and Pamela (Robert) Savaglio of AZ; four step-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Dolores) Langdon of Pembine; sisters-in-law, Laurissa Mertins of Janesville, Nancy Mertins of Oak Creek; nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends and neighbors, Kathy (the late Bob) Waterfield; and other friends. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her siblings: Alfred (Louella), William (Mildred), Orville (Betty); Florence (Edward) Joslin, Winifred (Jerome) Richter, Priscilla (Clifford) Miller.

Funeral services will be held at the Second Presbyterian Church, 1400 Kingston Ave, Thursday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Alan McCalister officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Wednesday at Maresh-Meredith Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to Dorothy’s nephew, Dan Langdon for all of his loving care through the years.
