Former Mount Pleasant Trustee Karen Albeck has passed away. She died Dec. 30, 2015 in her Mount Pleasant home.

Albeck is remembered as caring and generous, to whom her family meant everything, according to the obituary posted on the Sturino Funeral Home website.

“Karen was a dear friend! She always was willing to be of assistance wherever she was needed. Thank you Karen– you were kind, caring, and compassionate,” Dennis and Shelley Costello posted.

She enjoyed a 30-year career with the Racine Unified School District first as an English teacher at Gilmore Middle School and then as an Individualized Education Coordinator at Case High School for at-risk and special needs kids. After she retired, Albeck was the primary caregiver for her mother, and she served as a Mount Pleasant trustee for several years as well.

“I enjoyed working for and with Karen during my tenure at RUSD. I loved her passion for education and her advocacy for all students. I know she was a huge comfort to her mom and provided her with great care and undying love. I will always think of her fondly. Many prayers to her family and friends,” Roseanne Nelson wrote.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sturino, 3014 Northwestern Avenue, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Communion Lutheran Church where Albeck was a lifelong member. Services will begin at 11 a.m. at the church, 2000 6th Street.

Albeck will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting memorials to Holy Communion or to a charity.
