Janet A. Floyd, age 74, passed away on Thursday at Oakridge Care Center.   Janet was born in Racine on March 21, 1942, daughter of the late Richard and Beatrice (nee: Field) Floyd.

A graduate of the School Sisters of St. Francis in Milwaukee, Jan later attained a degree in Education from Alverno College and her Master’s degree in Reading from UW-Milwaukee.  As an educator, she taught from 1967-1998 at Trautwein, Bartlett, Johnson and Gifford schools expanding many young minds in Racine Unified. Following retirement, Jan taught the art of Reading to other teachers in the area at UW-Parkside. Always encouraging her love of reading, she donated thousands of children’s books to local schools. In her spare time, Jan enjoyed cooking and even made her own cookbook. An organizational guru, she could have taught Martha Stewart a couple of things! She loved her cats and was happy to finally see the Cubs win a World Series.

Janet will be dearly missed by her sister, Camille Jansa; niece, Cheryl Jansa and her daughter, Marisa; nephew, David Jansa; cousins, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents, Janet was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Dennis A. Jansa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St, on Thursday  10:30 a.m., with Rev. Terrance j. Huebner officiating.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to St. Monica’s Memory Care Unit or the Alzheimer’s Foundation have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to the staffs at St. Monica’s and Oakridge Care Center for all of their loving and compassionate care.
